The ProcessProducing hand carved architectural stone is a creative process which calls for care and precision in order to assure not just the right look, but also, most important, a good fit for each piece of finished stone within the building's structure. What follows is an outline of the steps involved all the way from developing ideas and making sketches, to the completed installation. A First Look at the Project.A meeting with the homeowner or company representative of a commercial project, or their design professional is usually the starting place. This will help us gain an understanding of the project, and to get a feeling for the particular tastes of the owner. We'll share with them ways that hand carved stone can most effectively fit into the project as a whole. From Concept to Drawings. We'll take the initial ideas for the project, and translate them into artistic renderings, or drawings. We'll provide budget figures for the cost of the project. Fine Tuning the Designs. In looking at the renderings, there will be ample opportunity for revision, as we fine-tune the concepts. After that, our CAD specialist produces shop drawings of all items. |

The Quarry. The shop drawings are delivered to the quarry which will produce the stone. De Santana has developed strong working relationship with a number of quarries over the years. This is an important part of us being able to provide the level of craftsmanship and service that we are known for. Once the stone with the appropriate qualities has been and removed from the ground, skilled carvers go to work. Many of those who carve our stone belong in families who have been doing the same thing for many generations. |
